About Arming The Nation

Arming the Nation is a recognised training organisation (RTO #46026) based at 8 Rifle Range Rd, Hervey Range QLD 4817.

Arming the Nation delivers firearms courses that meet the students training needs. Possession of a firearm by law requires a high level of comprehensive firearms training, At Arming the Nation we have over 26 years of firearm experience and work diligently to deliver this training to all our students through the following. The course starts with detailing legislative provisions in QLD regarding firearms and firearms usage. We also cover the social responsibilities that are associated with the use of firearms and general safety procedures.

'Come And Try' Shooting

Arming The Nation is now offering 'come and try' shooting days for those that have never shot a firearm before. You'll be able to come and try shooting a variety of firearms with one-on-one instruction. The perfect excursion for parties, bucks celebrations, hen parties, work functions, teambuilding exercies, or group activites.

Clay Target Shooting

For courses which are held at clay target clubs Arming the Nation does live firing with the students shooting at real clay targets in the air flying from a trap house. For the practical component of the assessment in the firearms safety course the student will select a shot gun. To then complete the practical assessment and live firing part, which is fun if you have never done this before. We have many different shotgun sizes for this part to suit the students’ needs hearing protection and eye protection will be fully provided by Arming the Nation. With all the live firing with the firearms Full PPE, must be always be worn during the practical assessment for the student’s safety.

The following course informations covers everything you need to know in order for you to legally and safely posses a firearm in QLD. Duration of courses are: 7 hours.

11029NAT Course in Firearms and Weapons Safety


Units:

  • Core Unit:
    • NAT11029001 Demonstrate knowledge of weapons legislation, weapons, and community safety
  • Electives:
    • NAT11029002 Use Category A and B firearms lawfully, safely, and responsibly
    • NAT11029003 Use Category C firearms lawfully, safely, and responsibly
    • NAT11029004 Use Category D firearms lawfully, safely, and responsibly
    • NAT11029005 Use Category H firearms lawfully, safely, and responsibly
    • NAT11029006 Use Category M (Crossbows) lawfully, safely, and responsibly
    • NAT11029007 Use Category M (Miscellaneous Weapons) lawfully, safely, and responsibly

Category A & B


Units:

  • NAT11029002 Use Category A and B firearms lawfully, safely, and responsibly

Available to:

  • Recreational Shooting.
  • Clay target/rifle shooting.
  • Primary production/farmers.

Category C


Units:

  • NAT11029003 Use Category C firearms lawfully, safely, and responsibly

Available to:

  • Primary producers e.g. farmers, rural employees, professional shooters, aerial shooting/pest controllers, commercial fishing or any other occupational use.
  • Recreational clay target shooting only for those with a medical certificate (stating a lack of physical strength or dexterity).

Category D


Units:

  • NAT11029004 Use Category D firearms lawfully, safely, and responsibly

Available to:

  • Occupational use only. For feral animal vermin control for primary production or rural employees, aerial shooters and professional vermin controllers. Applicants must prove primary production status or proof of employment.

Category H


Units:

  • NAT11029005 Use Category H firearms lawfully, safely, and responsibly

Available to:

  • Pistol club shooting.
  • Primary production farmers. Handgun use only on an approved primary production property.

Category M


Units:

  • NAT11029006 Use Category M (Crossbows) lawfully, safely, and responsibly
  • NAT11029007 Use Category M (Miscellaneous Weapons) lawfully, safely, and responsibly

Available to:

  • Anyone wishing to get crossbow licence for hutning or club use.

Junior Shooters


Must be 11 years and up for a minors license. (Once the minor becomes 18+ years of age they can apply for full, adult licenses)

ARMING THE NATIONS BEGINNINGS

Arming the Nation is owned by Aaron Lemphers in Townsville Nth Queensland.

Aaron started shooting at a very young age of 12 years of age and has been around firearms for most of his life. He started shooting in Castlemaine Country Victoria duck hunting and rabbit shooting. Then joined The Castlemaine Clay Target Club in 1997 and took to clay target shooting like a duck to water, which he is still doing today. Now Aaron resides in Nth Queensland and is a member and completive shooter of the Silkwood Clay Target Club. He started pistol shooting in 2008 and has held a pistol licence since this time and been a financial member of the pistol club in Townsville.

Aaron started his business of firearms training in 2019 with his beautiful wife Nicole and has never looked back. Arming the Nation has grown to one of the largest firearms training companies in Queensland and Arming the Nation trains in many locations in Queensland.

Aaron is very passionate about firearms training and firearms safety for any shooter that is getting into the sport of shooting. His training is not a job it is a passion for him.
